PRESIDENT’S REPORT

By Rick Doty

I hope that your summer is going well.  To add to your summer fun we have two great events in the month of August.  The first event Saturday, August 23rd will be a fund-

raiser for MDA with UAW Night at O’Brien Field.  The street by the ballpark will be closed off with a number of fun activities for the kids to enjoy.  The Peoria Chiefs players will be wearing special hats during the game that will later be auctioned off to benefit the MDA.  We will be joined by UAW Local 2488, UAW Local 565 and the Peoria

Fire Fighters Local 50.

Every kid loves a fire engine and the Fire Fighters will be giving rides on their fire truck

before the game.  For you Harley lovers, there will be a motorcycle parade on the field to start the game and Walters Brothers Harley Davidson will be there with all the new 2009 bikes on display.  If you are a rider come out and be a part of the parade and show off your bike.  As you can see, there is something for everyone so plan to make it

a night of great UAW family fun and finish it off with the last firework show of the summer.

The second event is the Annual Labor Day Picnic.  The picnic is on Saturday, August 30th at the Union Hall and is open to UAW Members as well as the public.

By the time that you read this article we will know how many jobs we are losing, keeping or gaining from the one billion dollar Capital investment the company has

spoken of.

We all need to begin thinking and preparing for the upcoming contract talks although 3 years away they will be here before you know it.  As you have seen in recent weeks, the

company that we work for does not feel it needs to abide by the contract that was agreed upon.  Cat will only follow the language when it needs to hide behind it,

otherwise it’s obvious that it doesn’t follow it.  Only by standing together will we be able to make things better.  As the retired members have shown in the past, solidarity is

the answer.  Today is your day, the day to begin taking ownership of our future.

In Solidarity,

Rick Doty
